Medicine Mentoring

Service Description

Applying to Medicine is one of the most competitive processes in UK higher education, and getting it right takes more than good grades. Our Medicine Mentoring service is a 1:1 programme designed to support prospective medical students through every stage of the application, from choosing the right universities through to interview day. We help with UCAT preparation, working through the different sections of the test, including verbal reasoning, decision making, quantitative reasoning and situational judgement, with practice questions, timed sections and strategies to manage the pressure of the test format. We also support with BMAT preparation where required. Personal statement support is a core part of the mentoring, helping students identify what makes their application distinctive, structure their statement clearly, and write in a way that reflects genuine reflection on their experiences rather than a generic list of achievements. We review multiple drafts and give honest, specific feedback so the final statement is one the student is genuinely proud of. Interview preparation covers both traditional panel interviews and MMI (Multiple Mini Interview) formats, which most UK medical schools now use. We run mock interviews covering ethical scenarios, communication skills stations, motivation for Medicine, and current NHS topics, building the student's confidence in thinking on their feet and articulating their reasoning clearly. Work experience guidance is also included. We help students think about what experience is realistic and valuable to pursue, how to reflect meaningfully on what they've observed, and how to talk about it convincingly in both personal statements and interviews, since admissions tutors are far more interested in genuine reflection than a long list of placements. Sessions are led by a mentor with first-hand experience of the medical school application process and ongoing medical study, giving students an insider's perspective on what admissions tutors are really looking for. Mentoring is tailored to each student's starting point, whether they're just beginning to think about a Medicine application or are refining a personal statement ahead of the UCAS deadline.
